The Patagonian Conure, also known as the Burrowing Parrot (Cyanoliseus patagonus), is one of the most distinctive and charismatic members of the conure family. Native to the dry, open landscapes of Argentina and Chile, this species stands out for its size, intelligence, social nature, and unusual nesting habits.


🪶 Appearance

Patagonian Conures are among the largest conures, often reaching 45 cm (17–18 inches) in length. Their plumage is striking and easily recognizable:

  • Olive‑green to olive‑brown head, neck, back, and breast

  • Bright yellow lower back and upper abdomen

  • Orange‑red thighs and central abdomen

  • White eye ring and white breast marking

  • Greyish‑brown throat and breast

  • Pink legs and a grey beak

Their bold coloration and expressive eyes give them a lively, alert appearance.
