🌏 Wild Population Status
Precise global population numbers are unknown, as the species occurs across a broad range and exact counts have not been published, but it does persist in multiple countries across its native range.
Although categorized as Least Concern, the species is thought to be decreasing overall due to ongoing habitat loss, deforestation, and trapping for the pet trade in parts of its range.
🏞️ Threats in the Wild
The Blue-crowned Hanging Parrot faces pressures from:
Deforestation and fragmentation of forest habitat
Illegal trapping and capture for the pet trade
Loss of suitable feeding and nesting sites
These pressures contribute to declining local populations in some areas even though the species remains widespread overall.
✨ Our Role — Conservation Breeding at Feather Headz
At Feather Headz Aviary, we are proud to be involved in responsible conservation breeding of the Blue-crowned Hanging Parrot. While in the wild this species is not incredibly rare it is extremely rare to hear of one or see them inside the USA.
