Eclectus Female Parrot

The Solomon Island Eclectus Parrot (Eclectus roratus solomonensis) is one of the most visually striking subspecies of Eclectus parrots and is well known for its extreme sexual dimorphism. Males and females are so dramatically different in appearance that they were once believed to be two separate species. It was not until the early 20th century that scientists confirmed they are, in fact, the same bird. Eclectus are a great option for those with allergies as they are low dust producing bird.
Female Solomon Island Eclectus:
Appearance & Characteristics
Plumage
Female Solomon Island Eclectus parrots display a vivid scarlet to crimson red head, neck, and body. The lower abdomen and undertail coverts are a rich royal blue to deep blue-purple, a hallmark trait of the Solomon subspecies.
Feather Texture
Like all Eclectus parrots, Solomon Islanders have a unique feather structure that lacks the typical interlocking barbules found in most parrots. This gives their feathers a soft, fur-like or hair-like appearance and an exceptionally smooth texture.
Beak & Eyes
Adult females have a solid jet-black beak. Their eyes are accented by a pale yellow to whitish iris, creating a bold and expressive look.
Size
Solomon Island Eclectus parrots are among the smaller Eclectus subspecies, typically measuring approximately 12–13 inches in length and weighing around 12–15 ounces.
Intelligence & Speech
Highly intelligent and interactive, Solomon Island Eclectus parrots are known for their clear speech, strong comprehension, and engaging personalities. With proper socialization, they often develop impressive talking abilities and deep bonds with their caregivers.
